This dive site, Pedra do Ferro, is a natural wall-shaped reef located a short 10-minute boat ride from the marina. The reef is characterized by two prominent slabs, positioned north and south, running in an east-west direction. A sandy channel separates these two large rock formations at the maximum depth of 18 meters, offering a clear navigation path along the reef.
The site is teeming with marine life, making it a vibrant ecosystem. Divers can expect to encounter shoals of sea bream, small salemas, and various forkbeards hiding within the slabs and their numerous fissures. Notably, the site is also a paradise for macro enthusiasts, boasting an abundance of diverse nudibranch species.
The best time to visit this site would typically align with the warmer months in Portugal, generally from spring through autumn, when water temperatures are more comfortable and conditions calmer. Its shallow maximum depth and rich biodiversity make Pedra do Ferro an excellent choice for beginner divers, underwater photographers focusing on macro life, and freedivers alike.
