This dive site offers shore diving opportunities from Portinho da Areia Sul beach and around Peniche Fortress' inlets. Navigation is relatively straightforward, following the coastline and exploring the rocky inlets and reefs. The historical significance of the Peniche Fortress adds a unique element to the dives, imagining its past while exploring the underwater world. The marine life is diverse, although not abundant in large pelagic species. Expect to see various species of fish common to the region, including smaller reef fish, possibly some crustaceans, and the need to watch out for stonefish, scorpionfish, and sea urchins. The best time to visit Peniche for diving is during the warmer months (May to October) when water temperatures are more comfortable and visibility is generally better. It's important to check weather conditions before diving, as strong winds can affect visibility and sea conditions. For freediving, the shallower depths and usually mild currents make it suitable for various skill levels; however, it's always important to dive within your limits and be mindful of potential hazards like the marine life mentioned above.
