About this dive site
This dive site is the wreck of Carib Cargo / RoRo / Carib Ghost, a fascinating salvage operation. The account comes from Steve P, one of the salvagers involved. This vessel was severely damaged during Hurricane Luis in 1995 and subsequently disappeared after being impacted by Hurricane Bertha in 1996. A subsequent oil slick prompted a salvage team to locate it. The wreck now rests upright at approximately 19.8 meters (65 feet) in sand, surrounded by seagrass. Reef balls are present in the area, providing habitat for diverse wildlife. Common sightings include schools of tomtate fish, bluestripe gruntfish, and blackbar soldierfish. You might also encounter smooth trunkfish, lionfish, and parrotfish. Larger visitors like Southern stingrays, Caribbean Reef Sharks, and even Goliath Grouper (though rare) have been observed here. This dive offers a unique glimpse into the history of shipwrecks and marine life recovery.
