This dive site features the Gregory, a 33-meter long transport barge intentionally sunk and now resting upside down on a sandy bottom at 15 meters. Located south of Long Bay, the wreck serves as a thriving artificial reef. Divers can navigate around the overturned hull, observing its structure. A nearby small drop-off adds to the topographical interest, providing additional exploration opportunities adjacent to the main wreck.
The Gregory is a particularly interesting site for encounters with larger pelagic species such as Barracudas, majestic Eagle Rays, and graceful Turtles, which are often found roaming the adjacent drop-off. Inside the wreck, divers can spot various crustaceans including Slipper Lobsters and other lobsters, while shoals of Sergeants Major often congregate around the structure, adding to the vibrant marine tapestry.
The site is suitable for all levels, with its relatively shallow maximum depth of 17 meters and an average depth of 8 meters, making it ideal for both scuba divers and freedivers. The diverse marine life, from the large pelagics to the smaller crustaceans within the wreck, ensures an engaging experience. General tips for divers include exercising caution around the wreck structure, especially if attempting any form of penetration.
