About this dive site

This dive site is Dial Rock, a rock pinnacle located in Saldanha Bay, South Africa. It's a popular spot for beginner divers due to its calm conditions and shallow depth, making it ideal for training dives and gaining experience. Access is via a shore entry with a short, easy surface swim of about 150 meters. The dive site itself is relatively straightforward to navigate, with the main feature being the rock pinnacle itself and a small kelp outcrop on the southern side.

Marine life at Dial Rock is diverse and abundant for a shallow site. Expect to encounter a variety of rockfish species, cuttlefish, octopus, sea stars, and nudibranchs. The kelp forest provides shelter for smaller creatures, making it a great spot for macro photography.

The best time to visit Dial Rock is during the warmer months (spring and summer) when the water is clearer and visibility is better. While the site is generally calm, it's advisable to check the weather forecast and sea conditions before entering the water. Divers and freedivers should be mindful of the shallow depth and ensure proper buoyancy control. A wetsuit is recommended year round.
