About this dive site
This dive site is known as Livingstone Reef, a relatively new discovery located off Castor Reef. The reef’s name originates from the diver who initially found the prominent pinnacle while exploring the north pinnacle of Castor Reef – it had previously gone unreported as a dedicated dive location. Maximum depth reaches approximately 23 meters on the seabed and around 14 meters at the top of the main pinnacle, with an adjacent smaller pinnacle reaching between 15 and 16 meters. The surrounding reef generally slopes to a depth of 21-18 meters, while sand sits at roughly 23 meters. The reef extends approximately 220 meters in a north-west to south-east direction, with a width near the pinnacle around 30 meters. The western pinnacle is a compact formation composed of clustered rocks featuring crevices and overhangs, reaching up to one meter above the 15-meter depth. To the south-east, the topography becomes more rugged, transitioning to a steeper slope. Visibility is good, making it suitable for both wide-angle and macro photography. The area supports diverse marine life including gorgonian sea fans, anemones, soft corals, hydroids, bryozoans, feather stars, and sea cucumbers. Various fish species are frequently observed, such as Bank Steenbras, Redfingers, Two-tone finger fin, Hottentot, Chubby clingfish, Klipfish, and shy sharks. It's a good site for macro photography, especially in clear conditions.
