About this dive site

This dive site presents the wreck of the SS Clan Stuart, a 3,500-ton British turret steamer that ran aground near Simon’s Town in November 1914. The ship was carrying coal and battered by a severe storm before being abandoned after salvage attempts. Now lying in shallow water, the wreck has become an artificial reef attracting diverse marine life, including fish and nudibranchs. The rusted engine block remains visible, offering a poignant glimpse into the vessel's past. Entry to this dive site can be challenging due to strong currents and potential rough seas; careful assessment of weather conditions is essential before embarking. Despite these considerations, it remains a popular destination for local divers seeking an intriguing underwater experience.
