About this dive site

This dive site, Bajo de Piles I Marine Reserve, is a large, bar-shaped rock formation extending approximately 75 meters, oriented west to east. It's surrounded by other smaller rock structures, such as Piedra del Francés and Dos Hermanas, creating a complex and interesting underwater landscape to navigate. Divers can explore various routes around the main rock and the surrounding formations, making for a varied and engaging dive.

The area is known for its abundant marine life. Large groupers are a common sight, along with numerous moray eels and pollacks which sometimes gather in large schools. Other fish species include mojarras, bream, and dentex. The varied topography provides habitats for a range of smaller creatures as well.

The best time to visit Bajo de Piles I is during the warmer months (spring and summer) when visibility is typically at its best and the water is warmer. While freediving is possible in this area due to the manageable depth and the abundance of life close to the surface, divers should be aware of potential currents, especially during stronger winds. It's advisable to check current conditions before diving and always dive with a buddy.
