About this dive site

This dive site, El Boquete, is a unique underwater experience centered around a natural hole piercing through an island wall near the San Andres buoy. The entrance to the hole lies at a depth of 6 meters on the island's platform, providing easy access for both snorkeling and diving. Navigating the site is straightforward; divers simply need to locate the hole and gently swim through it. There is no known specific history or story associated with the formation of the hole, but its natural beauty makes it a unique site for exploration.

While marine life within the hole itself is not abundant, divers can still observe a variety of small fish and invertebrates clinging to the walls. The contrasts in light passing through the hole from the surface create a captivating visual experience that makes up for the relative lack of larger marine fauna. Expect typical Mediterranean fish species.

The best time to visit El Boquete is during calm weather conditions, ideally during the summer months (June to September) when the sea is warmer and the visibility is at its best. Divers and freedivers should exercise caution during rough seas, as strong waves can make entry and exit challenging. For freedivers, the maximum depth of 18 meters allows for some challenging explorations, while beginners will find the shallower depths near the entrance ideal for practice. Always check weather and sea conditions before entering the water.
