This dive site, known as El Dique, is located on the outer face of the new commercial port of Ciudadela, "Port Son Blanc," in Menorca, Spain. Accessible by boat, divers typically reach it after a short 5-minute sail south from Ciudadela's main port, passing Cala des Degollador. The dive focuses on exploring the vertical wall of the dock, which acts as an artificial reef, offering a unique underwater environment to discover the local marine life.
The waters surrounding El Dique are home to a vibrant array of Mediterranean species. Divers can expect to encounter schools of salemas, striped red mullets, and various seabreams including saddled, white, and two-banded seabreams. Larger inhabitants such as groupers, dusky groupers, and meagres can also be spotted, alongside fascinating creatures like Mediterranean morays and octopuses, which often seek refuge in the dock's crevices.
The best time to visit El Dique is generally during the warmer months when visibility is optimal and the water is calmer, typical of the Mediterranean. With a maximum depth of 19 meters and an average depth of around 9 meters, this site is highly suitable for divers of all experience levels, from beginners exploring the shallower sections to more experienced divers venturing deeper along the dock wall. Its relatively shallow average depth also makes it an excellent location for freedivers and snorkelers to enjoy the abundant marine life close to the surface, though caution regarding boat traffic is advised due to its proximity to a commercial port.
