About this dive site

This dive site, El Mirador, offers three distinct dive areas accessible from a single anchorage. A prominent feature is a canyon, approximately 5 meters wide and 20 meters deep, running parallel to the reef edge. Divers can explore this canyon, observing the varying topography and marine life within its depths. Eastward, bizarre rock formations create a complex underwater landscape, providing shelter for smaller fish and offering intriguing photographic opportunities. The contrast between these formations and the white sandy bottom adds to the visual appeal of the site.

The abundant marine life includes large groupers and morays inhabiting the crevices between the rocks. Rays of various species can be found on the sandy bottom. The reef itself is adorned with black and orange tree corals, contributing to the overall biodiversity of the site. Expect to encounter a variety of fish species typical of the region, along with the larger predators they evade.

The best time to visit El Mirador is likely during the warmer months (May-October), when visibility is typically at its best, and water temperatures are more comfortable. While the currents are generally mild, divers and freedivers should always check the conditions before entering the water. This site is suitable for both scuba diving and freediving, especially experienced freedivers due to the depth. It offers both wide-angle and macro photography opportunities.
