This dive site explores the wreck of "El Francisquita" off the north coast of Minorca, Spain. Resting on a sandy bottom at 50 meters, the wreck itself is 45 meters long and 8 meters wide, offering a substantial structure for exploration. This advanced dive is characterized by strong underwater currents, requiring very experienced and physically fit divers due to challenging conditions and the depth.
The wreck acts as an artificial reef, attracting a variety of marine life. Divers can expect to encounter gilthead seabream, moray eels, and groupers. Larger species like largescaled scorpionfish and marbled electric rays are also commonly sighted, along with impressive schools of greater amberjacks.
While no specific best time to visit is mentioned, the diving season in Minorca typically runs from May to October. The main highlights are the intact wreck and its vibrant ecosystem. Due to strong currents and depth, this site is not suitable for snorkeling or freediving, and only highly experienced scuba divers should attempt it, prioritizing safety and proper dive planning.
