This dive site is located on the south side of Isla Descubridor, an elongated, rocky island very close to Granadella's beach, just south of Cabo de la Nao. The island's entirely rocky and somewhat unapproachable nature above water translates to interesting underwater topography with plenty of nooks and crannies to explore. Navigation primarily involves following the island's rocky contours, revealing a vibrant ecosystem.
Divers can expect to encounter a variety of marine life, including numerous Scorpion Fish, Octopus, and Nudibranchs, making it a great spot for macro enthusiasts. Moray Eels and Conger Eels are also common residents among the rocky crevices. Furthermore, there is a fair chance to witness impressive schools of Barracuda, adding an exciting element for wide-angle photography.
The best time to visit Isla Descubridor Sur for diving or freediving is typically during the warmer months from late spring to early autumn when water temperatures are comfortable and conditions are generally calm. The site's varied depths and rich marine life make it rewarding for both scuba divers exploring the maximum depth of 21 meters and freedivers enjoying the shallower, sunlit rocky areas. Always be mindful of potential boat traffic when ascending or descending near the island.
