This dive site, S´Esquinçe, is located directly in front of Lloret Castle, accessible by heading 150º from Sa Caleta Beach. It features a unique 'torn' bar (Esquinça means 'torn' in Catalan) scattered across a sandbank, with its primary dive area at approximately twenty-five meters deep, although the bar structure itself gradually descends to thirty-two meters. The site offers an interesting topography with its broken bar formation, similar in character to the Barra de Fenals, providing ample hiding spots and exploration opportunities along the sandy bottom.
Marine life at S´Esquinçe primarily includes numerous lobsters and moray eels, which skillfully navigate and utilize the crevices and structures of the 'torn' bar. Divers can observe these fascinating creatures as they hide amongst the rocks and, unfortunately, often circumvent abandoned fishing gear ('nans') left by local fishermen. Other typical Mediterranean fish species and smaller crustaceans are likely to be found within this habitat.
The best time to visit S´Esquinçe, like most Mediterranean sites, is generally during the warmer months from late spring to early autumn for optimal water temperatures and calm conditions. This site is excellent for both scuba divers of all levels, given its manageable depth, and for freedivers looking to explore the deeper sections of the bar. Divers should be mindful of the abandoned fishing nets and lines, which can pose entanglement hazards, and perhaps consider bringing a cutting tool.
