About this dive site

This dive site, known as The Abyss, S’Esparta, features a unique underwater topography off the coast of Spain. Divers begin on a platform that gently slopes south from the island, reaching depths of 13 to 15 meters. On its western side, the site dramatically transforms into a clear wall drop-off, descending to 22 meters and beyond, making for dynamic navigation between shallow and deeper areas. The varied structure ensures interest for all skill levels.

The marine life here is diverse and changes with the seasons. From May to July, divers can expect to encounter octopus, amberjack, barracuda, moray eels, and delicate nudibranchs. Later in the season, larger pelagic species such as Dentex, Tuna, and various other predatory fish become more prevalent, offering exciting encounters with bigger marine life.

The best time to visit The Abyss is highly dependent on what marine life you wish to observe; May to July for smaller, resident creatures, and later in the season for larger migratory fish. This site is excellent for freedivers due to its depth variations from shallow platforms to significant walls. Scuba divers of all levels will appreciate the diverse environment, but experienced divers can explore the deeper wall sections for a more advanced dive.
