This dive site, Ao Chak, is nestled on the eastern side of Surin Nuea Island within the beautiful Surin Islands National Park, approximately 10 kilometers from the park office. It features an extensive coral reef, commencing 200-400 meters from the shore, and offers an enjoyable and relatively easy underwater navigation experience within a protected bay.
Divers can expect to encounter diverse hard corals, including abundant staghorn corals, bush corals, and various branch corals, forming a vibrant reef ecosystem. This healthy environment supports a wide array of reef fish, potentially including damselfish, snappers, groupers, and possibly resident sea turtles or reef sharks typical of the Surin Islands.
The best time to visit Ao Chak, like the rest of the Surin Islands, is during the dry season from November to April when sea conditions are calm and visibility is excellent. Its shallow average depth makes it ideal for both scuba divers and freedivers looking to explore a healthy and accessible coral reef.
