This dive site, Hin Pae, is situated on the north side of Koh Ngam Yai in Thailand. It features two prominent rock peaks that break the surface, with depths ranging from 6 to 23 meters. Below the surface, divers can explore intriguing underwater caves, which provide shelter and habitat for a rich diversity of marine life, making navigation relatively straightforward around the rock formations and into the caverns.
The vibrant marine ecosystem at Hin Pae is home to a wide array of species. Divers can encounter colorful sea anemones, delicate black corals, and swaying sea whips. The site also hosts impressive giant clams, alongside schools of butterflyfish, barracudas, and larger pelagics such as stingrays, turtles, and groupers. Notably, the area is also known for sightings of majestic whale sharks, adding to its allure.
The best time to visit Hin Pae for optimal conditions and marine life sightings generally aligns with Thailand's dry season, typically from November to April, when seas are calmer and visibility is at its peak. This site is excellent for both scuba divers and freedivers due to its manageable depths and fascinating topography, including the accessible caves. Divers should be mindful of mild currents that can sometimes be present around the exposed peaks.
