This dive site, Ko Rang Cave (เกาะรังหน้าถ้ำ), is located on the western side of Koh Rang within Thailand's Trat Province. It features a sloping cliff that descends to a maximum depth of 12 meters, with an average depth of 6 meters. Distinctive caves are carved into parts of the cliff, and the area in front of these caves presents a unique topography of slumped rocks and sand. This makes for an easy and engaging dive, particularly well-suited for beginner divers due to its manageable depths and straightforward navigation.
The site is celebrated for its abundant marine life, especially smaller animals that thrive amidst the rocky and sandy substrates. Divers can anticipate encountering a variety of reef fish, numerous species of crustaceans, and invertebrates. The presence of both hard and soft corals further enhances the underwater environment, providing shelter and sustenance for a diverse array of aquatic creatures, making it an excellent spot for macro photography.
The optimal time to visit Ko Rang Cave aligns with the dry season, typically from October to May, when the Gulf of Thailand offers calm seas and excellent visibility. It is highly recommended for those new to diving, given its shallow profile and mild currents. Freedivers will also find this site exceptionally appealing, with interesting cave formations and prolific marine life easily accessible on breath-hold dives. Always engage with a local dive operator to ensure a safe and enriching experience.
