This dive site, Ko Sam Phee Nong, meaning 'three brothers,' is a small island located on the west side of Koh Rang in Thailand. It features a gentle sandy slope, making it an ideal and easily navigable site, especially for novice divers. The site primarily consists of sandy expanses interspersed with coral patches, offering a relaxed environment for learning and exploring without complex navigation.
While larger pelagic species are uncommon here, divers can expect to see various reef fish typical of sandy and coral environments. The coral patches, though not extensive, provide habitat for small invertebrates and smaller fish species, offering opportunities for macro observations. The sandy bottom may also host interesting bottom dwellers, contributing to a diverse small-scale ecosystem.
The site is best visited during calm conditions, typically outside the monsoon season, to ensure optimal visibility and comfort for beginners. Its shallow depths and mild currents make it perfect for introductory dives, refreshers, and training. Freedivers and snorkelers will also find the site enjoyable due to its accessibility and shallow, sheltered nature, though experienced divers seeking advanced challenges or large marine life may find it less engaging.
