This dive site, Koh Bon Pinnacle, is a challenging and highly rewarding dive located off Koh Bon island in Thailand, specifically within the Similan Islands National Park region. It is an offshore pinnacle that begins at a depth of 22 meters and extends much deeper, making it unsuitable for beginner divers. There are no descent ropes available, so divers should be proficient in negative entry techniques to manage the often strong currents.
The pinnacle is adorned with beautiful vegetation, including extensive patches of vibrant yellow soft corals. Divers can expect encounters with impressive pelagic species such as majestic mantas, elusive whale sharks, and graceful marble rays. Large schools of mackerel and batfish are also frequently sighted, alongside various reef sharks, including leopard and reef sharks.
The best time to visit Koh Bon Pinnacle generally aligns with the Similan Islands diving season, typically from October/November to May, with manta encounters often peaking between February and April. Due to its significant depth, potential for strong currents, and the requirement for advanced diving skills, this site is strictly for experienced divers. Freedivers would also find it extremely challenging given the deep starting point and strong currents, making it predominantly a scuba diving destination.
