This dive site, Koh Nen (เกาะเณร / เกาะพระน้อย), is a small island situated approximately 1.6 km from Laem Thian Pier and 500 meters from Ko Phra, off the coast of Thailand. It is located near a military operations unit and is actively managed by the Royal Thai Navy for both military training and marine resource conservation, including regular conservation diving activities. The site is characterized by its shallow coral reefs, making underwater navigation simple and typically involving following the gentle contours of the reef.
Divers at Koh Nen can expect to encounter diverse schools of fish thriving within the vibrant shallow coral reef ecosystem. While specific large pelagic species are not highlighted, the healthy reef environment supports a variety of common reef inhabitants such as damselfish, anemonefish, parrotfish, and various small invertebrates. The extensive coral formations themselves provide ample opportunities for macro photography and observing smaller marine life.
The optimal time to visit Koh Nen for diving and snorkeling is generally during Thailand's dry season, from November to April, when the seas are calmer and visibility is typically at its best. With a maximum depth of 8 meters and an average depth of 4 meters, this site is perfectly suited for beginner divers, snorkelers, and freedivers. Visitors should be aware of its status as a military and conservation area and adhere to any local guidelines or restrictions, ensuring a respectful and enjoyable experience.
