This dive site, the Tuna Wreck, was intentionally sunk in 2003 by the Thai government to create an artificial reef, enhancing marine biodiversity. Located off Island No. 5, it offers an engaging wreck diving experience. Divers typically descend to the wreck structure, navigating its exterior and the surrounding artificial reef environment. While not primarily a penetration dive, the wreck provides interesting topography and shelter for marine life.
The Tuna Wreck is teeming with vibrant marine life, including extensive soft corals and gorgonians that have colonised the structure. Divers can expect to encounter large shoals of glassfish, various triggerfish, colourful angelfish, and blue-spotted stingrays.
The best time to visit the Tuna Wreck, like most sites in the Similan Islands, is during the dry season, generally from October to May. Highlights include the vibrant ecosystem thriving on the artificial reef. For freedivers, the average depth of 14 meters with a maximum of 28 meters offers a good range for exploration, while divers will enjoy the historical aspect combined with the rich biodiversity.
