This dive site is a shallow, easily accessible shore dive located off Cerro Gordo Beach. Divers can navigate directly from the beach to a natural reef situated approximately 50 feet offshore. The bottom is a mix of sand and turtle grass, leading to the reef which is primarily adorned with soft corals. There is no significant historical information or complex navigation required, making it a straightforward and relaxed diving experience.
The marine life at Cerro Gordo Beach can be varied; on some days the reef teems with fish, while on others it may be quieter. Common sightings include small tropical fish such as angels, yellowtail, and grunts. For those with a keen eye, there is also diverse invertebrate life, with an excellent chance of spotting sea stars among the corals and sandy patches.
Due to the variable marine life, there isn't a specific 'best time' highlighted for exceptional sightings beyond general good weather conditions. This dive site is particularly suitable for beginners, snorkelers, and freedivers given its shallow depth and ease of access. It's a great spot for leisurely dives, macro photography of invertebrates, and enjoying the soft coral reef environment.
