This dive site hosts the first-ever underwater veteran memorial, known as the Circle of Heroes at Veteran’s Reef. It features a dozen concrete U.S. service members standing in a circle formation approximately 12 meters (40 feet) below the surface. This unique artificial reef provides a poignant and distinctive underwater experience, inviting divers to navigate around these solemn figures while reflecting on their significance.
The site is home to typical Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean fish species. Divers can expect to encounter various marine life, including stingrays, snapper, triggerfish, and hogfish. There's also a possibility of spotting different shark species such as sandbar, blacknose, and bonnethead sharks.
The best time to visit this dive site for optimal conditions is generally during Florida's warmer months, from late spring through early fall, when water temperatures are comfortable and visibility tends to be at its best. Its shallow average depth of 7 meters makes it highly suitable for beginner divers and also an excellent location for freedivers to explore and pay their respects.
