About this dive site

This dive site offers a unique and rewarding underwater experience at Fanning Springs State Park. The spring’s crystal-clear water, maintained at 72 degrees Fahrenheit, makes it suitable for divers of all skill levels. Maximum depth reaches 18 to 21 feet, providing ample space for exploration. The park boasts three distinct entry points into a large basin, ensuring accessibility. Divers can witness the fascinating spring boil – where nutrient-rich water erupts from the Floridan aquifer – and explore the natural beauty of limestone outcrops and fallen cypress logs. The underwater environment is home to musk turtles, which are frequently observed, as well as tiny freshwater flounder that scuttle along the sandy bottom. During colder months, manatees may visit the springs, potentially leading to temporary access restrictions to protect these vulnerable animals. This location provides a fantastic opportunity to observe Florida’s unique aquatic ecosystem.
