About this dive site
This dive site, Flagpole Rock, is located adjacent to Mike’s Beach Resort and offers a dynamic reef experience. The primary feature is a large, unusual underwater rock formation known as the knuckle – an odd-shaped rocky outcropping extending from approximately 65 feet at its highest point to 80-90 feet at the bottom, stretching eastward along the reef. At the base of this knuckle are scattered boulders and abundant colonies of cloud sponges (commonly referred to as glass sponges). Healthy schools of rockfish also inhabit these areas. The site is well-known for its population of wolf eels and giant Pacific octopuses which reside within the crevices and caves. To the south, the seabed descends into a flat, silty area, while the north side presents a landscape of boulder fields. Additional rocky reefs rise to around 20 feet below, providing suitable locations for safety stops. The visibility is generally good.
