This dive site, known locally as Rhett's Reef, is situated at the north end of the Lake Murray Dam within the Lake Murray Dam North Recreational Area. It offers convenient shore entry via a set of stairs located to the left of the parking area, leading directly into the water. Divers have intentionally placed various objects of interest in the area left of the stairs, creating an interesting underwater trail for exploration and a good site for navigation practice in this freshwater environment.
The lake environment supports a variety of freshwater fish species. Divers may occasionally encounter Striped bass, Largemouth bass, White perch, Bluegill, Sunfish, and Catfish. The underwater landscape primarily consists of a typical lake bottom, complemented by the man-made objects of interest.
The site is generally suitable for diving throughout the year, though water temperatures will vary seasonally, potentially requiring dry suits in colder months. It is particularly well-suited for beginner divers due to its shallow depth and straightforward access. Freedivers and snorkelers will also find the site accessible and enjoyable for exploring the objects and local fish life. Consulting with the nearby Wateree Dive Center for current conditions and group dives is recommended.
