This dive site, Marker 32 Reef, is located approximately 6 miles south of Key West, adjacent to the Western Sambo Reef. It is known as a very easy dive suitable for all skill levels, primarily due to its shallow depths and the presence of two permanent mooring balls, making boat access and navigation straightforward. The reef features classic spur-and-groove coral formations, creating an interesting underwater topography to explore.
The reef is teeming with marine life, including common sightings of Nurse sharks and impressive Goliath Groupers. Divers can also encounter various smaller inhabitants such as moray eels, spiny-tail lobsters, vibrant Sergeant Majors, and schools of Blue Tangs, providing a rich biodiversity for observation.
The best time to visit Marker 32 Reef for optimal conditions is typically from late spring through early fall when water temperatures are warm and seas are generally calm, though diving is possible year-round. This site is particularly suitable for both snorkelers and freedivers due to its shallow average depth of 4 meters. Divers should focus on exploring the coral grooves for hidden critters and observing the larger fish species that frequent the area.
