About this dive site
This dive site features an historic lighthouse dating back to 1827. The structure has faced challenges due to hurricanes, resulting in significant damage and alterations over time. Construction of the initial screw pile foundation began in 1852 and was completed in 1853. Notably, this location holds the distinction of being the site of the very first hydraulic lamp. Automated in 1938, it stands as a testament to early maritime technology. The structure’s iron screw piling creates a typical spur and groove seabed pattern, with some sections reaching depths of approximately 100 feet. This dive offers abundant marine life and photographic opportunities. It is located within the Florida Keys Marine Sanctuary.
