About this dive site
This dive site offers a unique opportunity to explore the U-1105, a German Type VII-C submarine that rests in the Potomac River. Located near Piney Point, Maryland, this wreck is situated at a depth of 85 feet with the conning tower approximately 65 feet down and the silt layer around 84 feet below the surface. The submarine was intentionally sunk in 1949 as part of a test to assess if Allied ships could detect it using sonar. During its wartime mission, the U-1105 attempted to find an Allied combat ship and sink it, descending to a depth of 100 meters (330 fsw). Visibility at this site can vary significantly, ranging from 2 feet to 10 feet. Due to its wartime history and challenging conditions, this dive is considered intermediate in difficulty.
