About this dive site
This dive site offers a unique experience along the Venice coastline, just south of Sarasota. The entry and exit point is via a sand beach, with a westward swim approximately 450-750 feet to reach cement reef blocks. This area sits atop an ancient fossil layer that extends between 18 and 35 feet beneath the surface. Ten million years ago, when Florida was submerged, this location was inhabited by sharks, leaving behind their fossilized teeth which are periodically brought to the surface by storms and waves. The dive provides a fascinating glimpse into prehistoric marine life and geological history. Visibility is likely good due to the relatively shallow depths.
