About this dive site

This dive site, known as The Popes Eye Marine Park, is a unique location within the Port Phillip Heads Marine National Park, representing an area of significant natural beauty. It features a fascinating man-made structure – a partially completed defence fort initiated in 1888. Originally intended to serve as a fortification, it was never fully constructed and ultimately became redundant. Today, this intriguing site has been reclaimed by nature and thrives with temperate water fish species, along with seaweed and kelp. The shallow inner area of the horseshoe-shaped structure is well-suited for divers just beginning their underwater explorations. Venturing to the outer rim, which reaches depths of approximately 10 meters, offers more experienced divers opportunities for discovery. This site provides a blend of historical interest alongside its marine environment.
