About this dive site

This dive site is known as The King, a former Navy tug boat that offers a unique diving experience. Constructed in 1941 in South Carolina and later transported to Bermuda, it served initially as a vessel for salvage operations before being deliberately scuttled in 1984 by the Bermuda Divers Association. This made it the first boat in Bermuda to be sunk intentionally for use as a dive site and artificial reef. The sinking occurred shortly after the Hermes was also sunk nearby (details can be found via an external link). Due to the loss of the original coordinates, locating the wreck presented a challenge for nearly ten years. It’s a fascinating piece of maritime history offering divers a glimpse into Bermuda's diving heritage.
