About this dive site
This dive site presents the wreck of the Minnie Breslauer, a steel-hulled steam freighter that sank off Bermuda in 1873. Built in Portugal in 1872 and originally destined for New York carrying wine, dried fruit, cork, and lead ingots, she ran aground on the South West Breaker reef while navigating unfamiliar waters. Despite being towed to St. Georges for repairs, the damage sustained was too extensive, leading to her final sinking before reaching port. The wreck rests at a considerable depth, providing an intriguing dive experience. Salvage efforts were undertaken by BW Walker and Company and the Lusher Brothers, who established operations in Bermuda around 1873. During the salvage process, their vessel, the Gleana, tragically sank itself nearby. This site offers a glimpse into late 19th-century maritime history and presents an opportunity to explore a historic wreck.
