This dive site features the tugboat Virgo, resting in a sailing position on the seabed. It's notably located a mere 20 meters from the tugboat Taurus, offering divers the unique opportunity to explore two distinct wrecks in a single dive. The Virgo's hull remains largely intact, showcasing prominent mooring bollards at the bow and a visible control room situated on top. The wreck provides an interesting structure for underwater navigation and exploration.
The marine life at Virgo is vibrant and plentiful. Divers frequently encounter large schools of fish, adding to a dynamic underwater scene. The site is also home to lazy nurse sharks, large turtles, and various rays, making for exciting observations. The wreck itself has become an artificial reef, supporting a healthy cover of corals and algae which further attract diverse aquatic species.
With its accessible average depth of 12 meters and maximum depth of 25 meters, Virgo is suitable for divers of all experience levels. The best time to visit is generally year-round, aligning with the consistent warm waters of Brazil, though specific migratory patterns for larger animals might vary. Divers should plan to allocate sufficient bottom time to explore both Virgo and the nearby Taurus wreck for a truly comprehensive experience. Freedivers can also enjoy exploring the shallower parts of the wreck and observing the abundant marine life.
