This dive site, Arenas, is characterized by a vibrant reef interspersed with large, isolated rock formations. Divers typically navigate along the sandy seabed and the reef, meticulously searching for smaller marine life while being surrounded by active schools of fish. The site features unique 'arenas' – sandy patches where rays and turtles are occasionally spotted. The dive culminates in a spacious cavern, complete with an impressive arch teeming with schools of fish, offering a memorable finale.
Marine life at Arenas is abundant and varied, including large schools of groupers, gunnards, damsels, and trumpetfishes. Encounters with larger species like nursesharks, various rays, and turtles are possible. The site is also a haven for macro enthusiasts, boasting nudibranchs, frogfish, octopus, parrotfish, and doctorfish, making it rich in both big and small creatures.
Arenas is an excellent dive site that can be enjoyed year-round, with Cabo Verde generally offering good diving conditions. Its average depth of 7 meters and maximum depth of 14 meters make it ideal for divers of all experience levels, including beginners. The calm conditions are also very suitable for freedivers and snorkelers, especially in the shallower reef areas, with the cavern providing a unique experience for those with appropriate training.
