This dive site, named Edzina after its discoverers Éder and Zina, is a unique reef located precisely in the middle of a sandy expanse northwest of Ponta de Tubarão. It stands out as one of Sal Island's top five dive spots due to its peculiar characteristics and isolated reef structure. Divers typically navigate around this central reef, exploring its rich ecosystems.
The site is teeming with marine life, consistently featuring schools of Glasseye, Red squirrelfish, Doctorfish, and seabreams. Divers can also encounter Brown moray eels, Greater slipper lobsters, and common stingrays, making for a vibrant and diverse underwater experience. The reef itself provides essential habitat for these species.
Edzina offers excellent diving conditions year-round, with its sheltered location providing consistent marine encounters. Its moderate depth makes it suitable for both scuba divers and freedivers seeking diverse fish life and unique topography. Due to its popularity as a top site, early morning dives might offer the best conditions and fewer other divers.
