This dive site is Navio a Vapor, an ancient vapor vessel wreck located off the coast of Cabo Verde. Although its real name is unknown, it is believed to be a work ship. The wreck consists of a chaotic scattering of iron remnants spread over an area of approximately 80 meters, primarily resting at an average depth of 7 meters, though it can reach 14 meters. Navigation involves exploring these iron fragments which have become a thriving habitat for marine life.
The site is teeming with diverse marine species. Divers can expect to encounter schools of bigeye, soldierfish, doctorfish, grouppers, damzel, lobsters, scorpion fish, moray eels, parrot fish, seabreams, butterfly fish, and glasseye, making it a rich environment for observation. Grunts are also frequently spotted among the wreck structures.
The best time to visit this dive site would generally be during calmer sea conditions, as strong currents and rough seas can make diving challenging due to its shallow nature. Despite potential conditions, the abundance of marine life makes it a rewarding experience for both scuba divers and freedivers. Its relatively shallow depth also makes it suitable for snorkelers, offering a glimpse into its vibrant ecosystem.
