About this dive site

This dive site, Tres Grutas (Three Caves), is a wall dive featuring three caves of varying sizes off the coast of Cabo Verde. Navigation involves following the wall and carefully entering the caves. The larger caves allow for penetration up to 8-10 meters, offering ample space for exploration and observation of the resident fish. The smaller cave is only suitable for a single diver for a quick turnaround. There's no known specific history or story associated with the dive site beyond its natural formation.

The marine life is abundant and diverse, with soldierfish inhabiting the deeper cave and trumpetfish residing in a shallower one. The area surrounding the wall and caves attracts nurse sharks, rays, turtles, and a variety of other fish species. The precise species of coral or other invertebrates present would need further on-site investigation.

The best time to visit is likely during the warmer, drier months, generally from November to May, when the water is calmer and visibility is better. For divers, proper cave diving training is recommended, especially for exploring the larger caves. For all divers, buoyancy control should be exemplary to avoid damage to the fragile environment. The dive is not suitable for freediving due to depth and potential navigational challenges.
