About this dive site
This dive site, "Wish You Were Here," is located in the northeastern part of a Cabo Verde island and boasts a unique reef structure resembling a labyrinthine wall. The reef itself rises to approximately 6 meters, with a sandy bottom descending to 12 meters, and a maximum depth of 20 meters. Navigation underwater requires attention to detail to avoid getting disoriented within the complex reef structure. There is no known specific history or story behind the naming of this dive site, however, its beauty speaks for itself.
The marine life is incredibly diverse. Abundant schools of fish are common, particularly when there is current. Expect to see doctorfish, damselfish, various sea breams, parrotfish, butterflyfish, groupers, frogfish, amberjacks, bigeye jacks, nudibranchs, turtles, nurse sharks, and stingrays. The reef itself likely supports a variety of coral and other invertebrates.
The best time to visit is likely during the warmer months (spring and summer), when visibility is typically best, and currents are milder. Even during those times, it is still important to be prepared for variable currents. Divers should maintain buoyancy control carefully to avoid damaging the fragile reef structure. Freedivers should be experienced and be aware of their depth limitations. Always dive with a buddy and inform someone on shore of your dive plan.
