About this dive site
This dive site offers a unique experience centered around the "Car Pile," a sunken barge from the 1950s that was intentionally sunk in the early 1970s to create an artificial reef. The vehicles, now fully integrated into the reef structure, provide a fascinating underwater landscape. Expect to see moral eels navigating through car headlamps and the opportunity to take a reflection picture in the chrome bumpers. The dive begins at approximately 13 meters / 45 feet and becomes increasingly interesting as you descend. A long safety stop is easily achievable on the shallow reef surrounding the site. Access is via an easy, sandy entry point from The Dive Bus house reef, located near Pierbaai. Visibility will vary but offers a compelling dive.
