About this dive site

This dive site, Abu Galawa Kebir, offers a fascinating combination of a shallow lagoon, vibrant coral gardens, and a noteworthy wreck. Navigation is relatively straightforward, with the shallow lagoon providing an easy entry point and a gradual descent to the deeper reef and wreck. The wreck itself is easily explored in various directions. Information regarding the history of the wreck is not included in the dive site description.

Marine life here is abundant and diverse. Divers and snorkelers can expect to encounter turtles, whitetip reef sharks, blue spotted stingrays, octopus, clownfish (Nemo), scorpionfishes, and an array of soft and hard corals. The diversity ensures both macro and wide-angle photographic opportunities.

The best time to visit is during the warmer months (May to September) when water temperatures are most pleasant, and visibility is typically excellent. However, note that currents can be more pronounced during certain wind conditions. Freedivers should be aware of depth limitations; while the maximum depth is 18 meters, freediving exploration should be managed safely well within limits. Divers should always be aware of their own abilities and conditions and dive within their certifications.
