About this dive site

This dive site, Abu Galawa Small, is a charming shallow reef system characterized by a small lagoon nestled amongst four smaller coral reefs. Navigation is straightforward, with the reefs providing clear boundaries. The shallow depth and generally calm conditions make it accessible to divers of all experience levels. A small sailing wreck lies on the western outer reef, adding an element of interest to the dive.

The marine life is abundant and diverse. Divers can expect to encounter a wide array of species, including bluespotted stingrays, lionfish, clownfish (Nemo), whitetip reef sharks, various nudibranchs and slugs, boxfish, anthias, stonefish, and scorpionfish. The coral itself is healthy and vibrant, providing a colorful backdrop to the abundant fish life.

The best time to visit is during the warmer months, from April to October, when the water temperature is most pleasant and visibility is typically excellent. For freediving, the shallow depth and generally calm conditions are ideal. Divers and freedivers alike should exercise caution around the stonefish and scorpionfish, and remember to maintain a respectful distance from the sharks and rays.
