About this dive site

This dive site is located 30km from Marsa Alam, Egypt and is known for its abundance of sharks and healthy coral reefs. The reef's structure features a dramatic drop-off, creating a thrilling drift dive experience. Navigation is generally straightforward, following the reef wall, however, divers should always be aware of the currents and maintain close proximity to their dive guide. Elphinstone Reef itself has been a prominent dive location for many years attracting tourists from across the world for its pristine condition.

Marine life is exceptionally diverse. Oceanic whitetip sharks, tiger sharks, hammerhead sharks, and barracudas are frequently sighted, along with a wide variety of reef fish. The coral formations are vibrant and healthy, supporting a profusion of smaller marine life such as invertebrates and smaller fish species that add diversity to the dive experience.

The best time to visit is during the warmer months, from March to November, when visibility is at its best and there's a higher chance of shark sightings. Strong currents are common at this site, so experience with drift diving is essential. This site is not suitable for beginners or freediving due to the depth and currents. Divers should be prepared for a challenging but extremely rewarding dive.
