This dive site, Malahi Reef, meaning 'playground reef,' is a high-light destination located within Egypt's renowned Fury Shoals. Divers navigate a spectacular underwater landscape characterized by numerous coral pinnacles, dramatic canyons, and two small, captivating caves. This natural formation creates an engaging and easy-to-explore environment, suitable for all levels, offering a playful and dynamic diving experience.
Malahi Reef boasts a rich variety of marine life. Divers can expect to encounter graceful blue spotted stingrays resting on the sandy bottom, vibrant schools of anthias flickering around the coral, and camouflaged scorpionfishes. Whitetip reef sharks patrol the area, while clownfish (nemo) peek from their anemones. Macro enthusiasts will delight in finding various slugs (nudibranchs), and lionfishes and moray eels are commonly sighted among the reef structures.
The 'high light' nature of Malahi Reef suggests excellent visibility and ample natural light, making it ideal for wide-angle and macro photography. The relatively shallow maximum depth of 19 meters and an average depth of 9 meters allow for extended bottom times, perfect for exploration. This site is suitable year-round, offering fantastic opportunities for both scuba divers and freedivers to explore its unique topography and abundant marine fauna.
