About this dive site

This dive site, Marsa Egla, is an easily accessible shore dive located 11km from Marsa Alam. The bay-like entry point makes it perfect for divers of all experience levels. The reef extends north and south, offering two distinct dive routes. Navigation is straightforward, with a relatively shallow and uncomplicated underwater topography. There is no known historical significance associated with the site; its appeal lies in its consistent marine life and accessible location.

Marine life is abundant and diverse. Expect to encounter numerous species including scorpionfish, moray eels, and a variety of reef fish. The seagrass beds attract sea turtles and occasionally dugongs. You'll also likely see a variety of invertebrates and smaller creatures amongst the coral and rocks. The reef itself is vibrant and healthy, supporting a rich ecosystem.

The best time to visit is during the warmer months (April to October) when the water is calm and visibility is at its best. Water temperatures are generally pleasant during this period. For freediving, the shallow depths and mild currents make this a particularly suitable location. Divers should be mindful of potential currents, especially if venturing further from the bay. Appropriate buoyancy control is always important, and divers should always respect marine life and avoid touching or disturbing the coral.
