About this dive site
This dive site, Le Masque, is located a 45-minute boat ride from Golfe Juan, offering a relatively accessible dive experience for all levels. Navigation is straightforward, as the site is generally characterized by a relatively flat seabed with varied topography. There is no known significant history or story associated with the site itself, making the focus firmly on the abundant marine life and underwater scenery.
The marine life at Le Masque is quite diverse for the Mediterranean. Divers can expect to encounter groupers, barracudas, gorgonians (sea fans), scorpionfish, and with some luck, even dolphins and ocean sunfish (mola mola). The gorgonians provide a beautiful backdrop and habitat for a variety of smaller invertebrates and fish. The seabed also supports a range of other Mediterranean species.
The best time to visit Le Masque is during the warmer months, typically from May to October, when the water is warmer and visibility is generally better. While currents are usually mild, divers and freedivers should always check local conditions before entering the water. Given the average depth and lack of significant hazards, Le Masque makes for a particularly suitable freediving spot, especially for experienced individuals. However, divers should always practice good buoyancy control and respect marine life.
