About this dive site
This dive site, Aspronisi Wall, is located between Aspronisi island and the Santorini lighthouse, a short boat ride from Caldera Beach. The site features a dramatic volcanic reef with unique kimberlite tubes and an amphitheater-like formation at the top. The main attraction is the impressive lava wall descending to a maximum depth of 27 meters. Navigating the site involves following the wall, exploring the reef's crevices and formations. There's no specific historical narrative associated with the site, but the volcanic geology itself provides a captivating underwater landscape.
The marine life at Aspronisi Wall is diverse and exciting. Dusky groupers, moray eels, and octopuses are commonly sighted, with occasional appearances of amberjacks. The volcanic reef structure also provides habitat for a variety of smaller creatures, making it suitable for macro photography. The abundant life found in the nooks and crannies of the reef contributes to the richness of the overall dive experience.
The best time to visit Aspronisi Wall is during the summer months (June to September), when water visibility is typically at its best. The calmer seas during this period also improve diving conditions. Divers should be aware of potential currents, especially at greater depths, and plan their dives accordingly. Freediving is not recommended due to the depth and currents.
