About this dive site

This dive site is the Buccaneer, a sailing yacht intentionally sunk in Molinere Bay, Grenada in the early 1980s to create an artificial reef. The wreck lies on its starboard side, offering divers a unique swim-through experience. While the deck planking is gone, the supporting structure remains, creating intriguing passageways and nooks to explore. Navigation is relatively straightforward, following the wreck's structure. The site is a popular choice among divers interested in exploring a relatively shallow wreck covered in vibrant coral.

The Buccaneer wreck is teeming with marine life. Schools of baitfish attract larger predators such as barracuda. Divers can also spot French angelfish, along with the unfortunately invasive lionfish. The coral growth on the wreck provides habitat for a variety of smaller fish and invertebrates, making it a good spot for macro photography.

The best time to visit Grenada for diving is generally during the dry season, from January to May, when visibility is typically at its best and the sea is calmer. While currents are usually mild around the wreck, divers should always check local conditions and dive with a qualified guide, especially those unfamiliar with navigating wrecks. This dive is not suitable for snorkeling or freediving due to the nature of the wreck and required penetration.
