About this dive site

This dive site consists of two distinct areas: the Kapsis wreck site, featuring a wreck sunk in 2005, and the Grand Canyon itself, a separate rock island about a quarter-mile away. Navigation involves moving between the two sites, requiring careful planning and awareness of the strong, variable currents. The Grand Canyon boasts a dramatic underwater landscape, with a maximum depth of 21 meters (70 feet), though the top of the reef is shallower. The site is known for its interplay of Atlantic and Caribbean waters.

The diverse marine life is abundant due to the unique location. Divers can expect to see a variety of fish species, including reef fish common to the Caribbean, along with larger pelagic species attracted by the currents. Coral formations are impressive, and smaller organisms like invertebrates and crustaceans thrive in this rich environment. The wreck itself also supports a distinct ecosystem.

The best time to visit is during the calmer months, typically from late spring to early autumn. While the currents are a highlight, they can be extremely strong, necessitating proper training and experience for safe diving. It's a boat dive, and proper briefing from experienced dive operators is highly recommended. Freediving is not recommended here due to the unpredictable currents and depth.
